Auburn University AP Summer Institute: Session 1 - June 24-27

Summary

Welcome! The 2019 Auburn University AP® Summer Institute (APSI) is endorsed by College Board and designed to aid the professional development of teachers, counselors, and administrators who are involved with Advanced Placement (AP®) courses. Workshops are designed for teachers who are teaching an Advanced Placement course for the first time and for experienced teachers desiring refresher training. Topics include subject matter content, test construction, pupil and teacher selection, College Board policies and procedures, and preparation and grading of AP exams.

All workshop instructors will be College Board Endorsed Consultants who have current information regarding AP® policies, including updates on any exam changes that may be occurring. All classes will be conducted at Auburn University. Specific classroom locations will be announced when that information becomes finalized.

Teachers who do attend an AP Summer Institute in 2019 should be able to:
• Understand the Course
• The course framework defines the scope of the course and
specifies what students must know and do to be successful on the
AP Exam.
• Plan the Course
• Sequencing, pacing, and scaffolding are essential for building
students’ understanding and their ability to transfer and apply
knowledge and skills.
• Teach the Course
• Effective instructional strategies help students to develop a
mastery of course content and skills over time.
• Assess Student Progress and Understanding
• Learning requires time, practice, and regular feedback.
